Survey Equipment Crime in Florida
Survey equipment theft has plagued the Florida surveying and mapping industry. Southeast Florida, specifically Palm Beach, Broward, and Miami-Dade counties, was particularly hard hit. The map below visualizes the location and quantity of reported crimes committed against surveyors. From 2002 through September 2021, over $7.0 million in survey equipment was stolen.

Maintaining the map and database is a collaborative effort between the Florida Surveying and Mapping Society and the University of Florida Fort Lauderdale REC Geomatics Program.
