The research will be primarily carried out at UF’s Fort Lauderdale Research and Education Center ( ), located ~ 20 miles north of Miami. The position includes a tuition waiver, health insurance, and an annual stipend. Funding for up to 4 years is available.

UF Geomatics @ South FL GIS EXPO Sat, 25 Aug 2018 20:00:59 +0000 The UF Geomatics Program @ Fort Lauderdale was involved throughout the 2018 South Florida GIS Expo. The Expo is the premier annual geospatial event in South Florida.

As part of the 25th anniversary celebration, ESRI’s Jack Dangermond gave the keynote address.

On August 23rd, Henry Hochmair presented with colleagues at Florida International University as part of the presentation entitled “FIU/UF Sea Level Rise Web GIS Applications.”

On August 24th,  Adam Benjamin, Levente Juhasz, and Ahmed Ahmouda presented a talk entitled “Geospatial Education: Adapting to Rapid Technological Change.”

Meanwhile, UF Geomatics posters were prominently on display during the two day event.

Congratulations to Levente Juhasz for taking home first prize in the Student Poster presentation category for his poster entitled: “Where to catch ’em all: A geographic analysis of PokemonGo locations”!

Lastly, thank you to everyone who came out to attend our presentations.

UF Geomatics @ ESRI UC – San Diego, CA Wed, 11 Jul 2018 19:29:20 +0000 Adam Benjamin represented the UF Geomatics program at the 2018 ESRI User Conference.

The annual conference had over 18,000 geospatial practitioners in attendance.

This year, Adam gave a well-attended presentation entitled “ArcPy: An Invaluable Tool for Efficiently Analyzing UAS Mapping Dataset Accuracy“.

UF Geomatics @ AGILE in Lund, Sweden Fri, 15 Jun 2018 19:05:13 +0000 UF Geomatics @ FTL was well represented at the 2018 AGILE conference in Lund, Sweden.

Henry Hochmair co-organized the VGI-ALIVE (AnaLysis, Integration, Vision, Engagement) pre-conference workshop on June 11. Traditionally, this workshop series is one of the most popular workshops at AGILE. This year was no exception as it was heavily attended yet again. For more details, the workshop website can be accessed here:

UF Geomatics hosts Florida ASPRS Workshop – 6/14 Thu, 14 Jun 2018 19:48:36 +0000 UF Geomatics hosted the semi-annual UF/FL-ASPRS Spring 2018 LiDAR Workshop in Apopka, FL at the IFAS Mid-Florida Research and Education Center.

This sold-out event was a huge success yet again.

It brought together geospatial experts from academia, industry, and government to discuss the latest technological advancements in LiDAR and photogrammetry.

Juhasz receives award from US Ambassador to Austria Wed, 06 Jun 2018 15:52:01 +0000 Levente Juhasz, a Geomatics Ph.D. candidate at UF FLREC, was invited on June 6 to an award ceremony in Vienna, Austria.

He was hosted by the new U.S. Ambassador to Austria, Trevor Traina, to receive a Marshall Plan Foundation scholarship.

This scholarship allowed Levente to work on a transnational project at the Carinthia University of Applied Sciences entitled “Identification of activity patterns for individual users across multiple VGI and social media platforms“.
