Survey Equipment Theft in Florida

Over the past 14 years, survey equipment theft has plagued the Florida surveying and mapping industry. Southeast Florida, specifically Palm Beach, Broward, and Miami-Dade counties, was particularly hard hit. This map visualizes both the number of reported crimes committed against surveyors and the value of the equipment stolen from 2002 through June 2015. During this time, over $5.1 million in survey equipment was stolen.

Maintaining the map and database is a collaborative effort between the Florida Surveying and Mapping Society and the University of Florida Fort Lauderdale REC Geomatics Program.
